Ba Be National Park
Ba Be National Park is an area of ancient Kart limestone mountains (a form of limestone eroded into caves) with a complex and diverse geological structure, representing the long-term development process of the crust. Belong to Cho Ra – Bac Kan province of Vietnam. Located in the arc of the Gam River, embracing the Chay River dome (also known as the small continental ancient Chay River) and way from Hanoi 4.5 driving hours (207 Km).

The terrain of Ba Be National Park has typical characteristics of Kast terrain due to limestone mountains weathered over many tectonic periods. Ba Be National Park is a complex of lakes-rivers-streams-karst mountains, from strong slopes to steep slopes with many caves. The terrain is strongly divided, there are both dirt mountains and rocky mountains, the altitude varies from 150-1000m, surrounded by mountain ranges 800-1500m high.
The center of Ba Be National Park is Ba Be Lake – the one of the world’s largest and most beautiful natural freshwater lakes. The lake was formed on the mountain about 10,000 years ago. The lake is located at an altitude of 150m above sea level like a giant freshwater tank placed on high mountains surrounded by evergreen tropical forests on limestone mountains. The lake is 7.5 km long, 0.2 km to 1 km wide, area 450 hectares, depth from 17-23m, deepest 29m, fluctuation range of water level during the year 2.8m, total water volume in the lake reaches 90 million m3. On the lake there are a number of small islands as Ba Goa (Widow lady), An Ma (Horse Training). The lake bottom has many reef peaks.
Climate, hydrology
Ba Be National Park is located in the climatic sub-zone of Northeast Vietnam. A year is divided into two distinct seasons (rainy season and dry season). The evaporation of water from Ba Be Lake takes place continuously, creating a cool and humid microclimate around the lake. The difference in temperature and humidity between months of the year is not large. Average annual temperature is 22oC, average rainfall is 1378mm/year, humidity is quite high > 80%, annually influenced by the northeast monsoon.
Flora & Fauna
The results of the 2012 surveys have listed 909 terrestrial plant species belonging to 517 genera, 149 groups, and 5 phyla. Including precious wood species and precious herbs… Ba Be Lake has 179 species of floating plants belonging to the phyla of green algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, eye algae, dinoflagellates and golden algae. Plant species have created favorable conditions for aquatic animals to grow.






Animals
Ba Be National Park has a very rich wildlife system with many rare species. From the 2012 survey results, 316 species of terrestrial vertebrates (40 mammals, 233 birds, 27 reptiles) and 16 amphibians were recorded. Ba Be Lake is also a place where a very rich number of fish species are recorded, according to research there are about 107 species, belonging to 5 orders and 18 families (World Natural Heritage Registration File of Ba Be National Park in 2006).
Among the total number of species currently listed, there are 41 species (30 species of terrestrial vertebrates and 11 species of fish) recorded in the 2007 Vietnam Red Book as species that need to be strictly protected and recorded. endangered species such as: White-cheeked langur, Northern striped civet, King cobra, White-eared night heron, Flower Spotted Bats…
The birds are recorded in recently: Black-crested Bulbul, Puff-throated Babbler, Greater Coucal, Green Sandpiper, Purple Heron, Common Kingfisher, Long-tailed Shrike, Oriental Magpie-Robin, Daurian Redstart, Fork-tailed Sunbird, Gray Wagtail, White-breasted Waterhen, Gray Heron, White-throated Kingfisher, White-throated Fantail, Gray-headed Canary-Flycatcher, Asian Tit, Common Tailorbird, Yellow-browed Warbler, Dusky Warbler, Pin-striped Tit-Babbler, Eurasian Tree Sparrow, Rufous-capped Babbler, Little Grebe, Little Egret, White-eared Night Heron, Chinese Pond-Heron, Medium Egret, Siberian Stonechat, White Wagtail, Paddyfield Pipit, Eastern Cattle-Egret.
