Tam Dao National Park
Tam Dao National Park is located entirely on Tam Dao mountain and the name (Tam Dao) means of three famous peaks: Phu Nghia (Rung Rinh) 1350m, Thien Thi 1375m and Thach Ban 1388m, is a large mountain range 80km long, 10-15km wide, running northwest-southeast, where Tam Dao National Park was established in 1996. The park area is 36,883 hectares, with altitudes from 100 to 1591m, located in 3 provinces: Vinh Phuc, Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang, 23km north of Vinh Yen city, 75km northwest of Noi capital.
Currently, the tourist area is being exploited in the national park located in Vinh Phuc province, helping visitors to visit and relax. This ecological forest has an area of ​​up to 34,995 hectares and is also the largest ecological forest in the North, with an ecosystem mainly made up of natural evergreen humid forests, with coverage as high as 70%.
The national park is located in a mountainous area, the climate here has clear differences according to altitude. Tam Dao National Park’s climate at an altitude of less than 700 – 800m is characterized by high humidity, cool temperatures during the day and coldness at night, so the vegetation is always green and fresh all year round, attracting many tourists. guests enjoy.

Tam Dao Getting there and Away
By motorbike or taxi or private car from Hanoi: it will take about 2 – 3 hours. Starting from the center of the capital, we move across Thang Long bridge, until we reach three intersections between AH14, National Highway 2 and North Thang Long Noi Bai Street, then turn left onto National Highway 2. Drive about 10km further in the direction of National Highway 2 and you will reach Vinh Yen. After passing Big C Vinh Yen, please pay attention to look on the side of the road for directions to Tam Dao.
By bus: from My Dinh bus station, you can choose some companies such as Nhat Nam (0941.868.386) or Tien Thinh bus (1900.88.86.84), prices range from 130,000 VND – 150,000 VND/way. Another extremely economical option is to take bus number 58 at Long Bien station to Me Linh Plaza, then continue to take bus number 1 to Vinh Yen town then continue to Tam Dao by taxi or xe Honda Om (motorbike taxi).
Flora and fauna of Tam Dao National Park
Tam Dao is located in the humid tropical monsoon climate zone in the mountains. The eastern slope has higher rainfall than the western slope because the eastern slope receives wind that brings a lot of water vapor blowing in from the sea. The rainfall at the high belt of Tam Dao mountain is quite large (2,600mm). The rainy season is from April to October, accounting for over 90% of the yearly rainfall.
However, there is a lot of rain in June, July, August and September. Due to the influence of terrain and geomorphological conditions, the temperature in the lowlands fluctuates from 22.9 to 23.7 degrees Celsius.
The mountainous area alone has the lowest temperature, an average of 18 degrees Celsius, the coldest is 10.8 degrees (January), the hottest month is 23 degrees (July). Notably, the temperature at Tam Dao resort is about 6 degrees Celsius lower than the temperature in Vinh Yen city. The average humidity in the low area is 81-84%, at high is 87%. Mountainous areas have higher humidity than lowland areas, especially when there is drizzle.
Tam Dao has a very diverse and rich flora and fauna. According to recent statistics of the GTZ project (2003), Tam Dao has 1,282 species of higher plants, belonging to 179 different families. Among them, there are 42 endemic species and 64 precious and rare species that need to be protected. The most prominent plant species can be mentioned as: azalea, red camellia, orchids, camelia tea, fairy flower, octagonal lily…
Fauna area with 77 species of mammals, 280 species of birds, 180 species of reptiles and amphibians. Rare and precious vertebrate species in Tam Dao such as Great Loris (Nycticebus coucang), Golden Monkey (Macaca multata), Red-faced Monkey (Macaca arctoides), Black Bear (Selenarctos thibetanus), Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), Fire Leopard (Felis temmincki), Oriental Umbrella (Ketupa zeylonensis), Great Kingfisher (Megaceryle lugubris), Kingfisher Varanus salvator, Python molurus, Naja naja, Ophiophagus hannah, Cuora galbinifrons, Cuora trifasciata, Spiny frog (Rana spinosa), Tam Dao toad fish (Paramesotriton deloustali).
